Smoked herbs, Christmas spice, tobacco, and black raspberry fruits all emerge from the 2016 Château Cap de Mourlin, an elegant, pretty, moderately concentrated Saint-Emilion that’s already drinking nicely.

The 2016 Cap du Moulin has a sumptuous bouquet of generous black cherry and boysenberry fruit, quite forward but well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin, but takes its foot off the accelerator and finishes in a classical style. This seems to gain substance in the glass and should improve further in bottle.

Attractive dark fruit, graphite and fresh, violet-like flowers, lead to a palate that has an assertive, concentrated and handsomely structured core of powerful, ripe tannins, carrying ample dark, dense fruit flavors long. Try from 2022.
