Nutty and almost oily nose. Toasted character as well as cooked citrus fruit. Dry and lengthy and textural, maybe a little bit flat on the finish, but there is plenty of persistence with a charming honeycomb note. (RH)

Tasted blind. Clean and neutral. At this stage decidedly boring. Very drying, tight, hard finish. (JR)
Notes of red and black currants, truffles, smoked earth, and graphite emerge from the 2016 Château Carbonnieux. Medium-bodied, ripe, with present tannins and good acidity, it has an old-school vibe and is classic Graves. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.
About the producer
This estate is one of Bordeaux’s oldest, with vines planted here since at least the 13th century. Over three generations, the Perrin family has completely renovated the estate and raised quality here significantly.
