A brilliant Fronsac made with advice from consultant Claude Gros, the 2016 Château de La Rivière checks in as 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Brought up in 50% new oak, it offers a medium to full-bodied, seamless, elegant style as well as lots of earthy, gravelly minerality, leafy herbs, and ripe black cherries. With fine tannins, impressive balance, and a great finish, it’s high class and will impress for a decade.
Dark purple. Big and bold with well-worked tannins. Well done! Good freshness plus sumptuous ripeness. GV ? (JR)
