The 2016 Puygueraud offers up aromas of blackberry, plum and cassis with touches of spices. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this wine is perfectly balanced, energetic and fresh, with velvety tannins and an ethereal finish. It’s an elegant, fruity red Francs Côtes de Bordeaux drinking superbly today.
From the team of David Suire and Nicolas Thienpont, the 2016 Château Puygueraud is Merlot-dominated, yet has 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. It has plenty of blue fruits, graphite, and some minerality as well as medium body, a fresh, clean, silky texture, and moderate length. It’s a well-made, charming, delicious wine to drink over the coming 5-7 years.
About the producer
The Thienpont family bought Ch. Puygueraud in 1946, running it as a farm until the 1980s when Nicolas Thienpont moved the focus to viticulture, with the first vintage in 1983. Based in the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, the property comprises 47 hectares of vines, both red and white.
