The 2016 Château Lamothe-Bergeron is one of the standouts, which given the quality of the vintage, shouldn’t surprise anyone. Medium-bodied aromas and flavors of currants, black cherries, licorice, graphite, and tobacco define this beauty, which has silky tannins, outstanding balance, and a great finish. It's a lively, elegant wine that's going to continue putting on weight over the coming 2-4 years and drinking spectacularly well over the following decade.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Mid cherry red. Sweet, ripe plummy fruit but there’s the purity of cassis too. Lovely fruit. On the palate, lots of deep fruit fully entangled with chewy but rounded tannins. Deep and flavourful. Generous and still well balanced between fruit and structure. Well done! Ageing very well and still a long way to go. (JH)

A generous Haut-Médoc with quite substantial, moderately dry tannins and smoky oak that augments the attractive blueberry fruit on the nose. Made with aging in mind. Better from 2020.

The 2016 Lamothe-Bergeron is savory, expressive and wonderfully nuanced. Grilled herb, smoke, leather, tobacco, game, plum and cedar give this Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois tons of character. Delicate and understated in the glass, the 2016 will drink well over the next handful of years, maybe more. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot.
