Tasting notes
The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Montornello (100% Sangiovese) opens to pretty spice and lot of richness. The wine shows consistency and balance thanks to equal billing given to dark fruit and savory spice aromas. Plum, sweet cherry and dried blackberry converge on the finish. The wine is dense and chewy in terms of texture. Some 40,000 bottles were produced.

A bold, powerful wine, the 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Montornello comes across as burly and also rustic in style. There is no shortage of depth to the black cherry, smoke, licorice, tobacco and game flavors. I would prefer to drink the 2013 over the next few years, as the fruit appears to be drying out, something that is especially noticeable on the finish.
Juicy and fruity with leather and ripe berry. Medium body, round tannins and a savory finish. Rich style single vineyard wine. Drink now.
Chocolate, violet, blackcurrant, floury tannic grip. Lots of upfront substance but fades fairly quickly. (RH)
