Score 96/100 · Drink 2017-2024, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Jul 2017

The 2014 Tumba del Rey Moro, together with Las Umbrías, is at the top of the hierarchy in 2014, as that year they were not able to bottle Rumbo al Norte. This Garnacha is from a single plot of old vines at some 1,100 meters altitude in a place where there are remainings of an old burial believed to have been for a Moorish king, hence the name (literally, the Tomb of the Moorish King). Only 493 bottles were produced in 2014 because of the extremely difficult conditions, which were especially bad for the later ripening vineyards in the Ávila part. This is spicy and stony, with a brutal minerality; the severe triage of grapes clearly paid off. Austere, vibrant and mineral, sharp, with citric acidity, this is unbelievable. Unfortunately, it won't be easy to find.
