Tasting notes
The 2000 Clos Erasmus was pop and pour and while not up to the otherworldly '98, boasts gorgeous aromas of chocolatey dark fruit, hot asphalt, dusty spice and serious chalk and minerals. There’s noticeable wood at first, but with air, the fruit completely soaks it up and covers any traces of new barrique. The palate is medium to full bodied with serious purity and richness, a killer texture and a tannic, blockbuster finish. I really enjoyed this but if you like more mature aromas, give this another 3 or so years in the cellar.

The blockbuster 2000 Clos Erasmus exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of jammy black fruits intermixed with a liquid minerality, and hints of vanilla as well as spice. With super purity, tremendous richness, and a full-bodied, long (45 seconds) finish, it will drink beautifully between 2006-2020. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Selections, Charlotte, NC; tel.
