The 2015 Baron de Brane has one of the more flamboyant Margaux bouquets, boasting precocious red cherry, crushed strawberry and cedar aromas, all very cohesive and displaying good vigor. The fresh, tensile palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, offering dark cherries, bay leaf and cedar toward the persistent finish. This is much better than the bottle opened at the vertical a few months earlier. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

The 2015 Baron de Brane is tightly wound on the nose, the broody blackberry, leather and gravel scents neatly combined and integrated with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh, lively entry. There is plenty of crisp black fruit laced with pencil lead, leading to a nicely focused finish that lingers in the mouth. Give this another year in bottle if you can. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château .

Château Brane-Cantenac has been a consistent performer in the Margaux wine appellation since Henri Lurton took over the property, but thanks to replanting and investment in the last decade, quality has seen another sharp upswing.
