Deep ruby. Vibrant aromas of fresh dark fruits, smoky minerals and cracked pepper are complemented by a deeper suggestion of olive. Supple and sweet on entry, then nervier in the midpalate, offering intense blackberry and bitter cherry flavors underscored by a core of zesty minerality. Shows very good focus and bite on the minerally finish, which is framed by smooth, slow-building tannins.

Paris did well in 2014, and while the wines lack the density and depth of the 2015s, they have pure, classic and balanced characters. They’ll certainly be drinkable at an earlier age than his 2015s. The 2014 Cornas Granit 30 is terrific wine from this young vigneron. Plums, liquid violets, crushed rocks and hints of graphite all emerge from the glass and it's medium-bodied, supple, ripe and textured. It offers tons of pleasure and class.

Inky ruby. Deep-pitched aromas of cherry compote, cassis, licorice and smoky herbs gain vivacity from a peppery overtone. Sappy and precise, showing strong mineral lift and energy to the sappy dark berry and licorice flavors. Closes smoky and very long, with a whiplash of juicy dark berries and slow-mounting tannins.

Starting out the Cornas releases, the 2014 Cornas Granit 30 has outstanding potential. Coming from lower down on the slope and the lieux-dits of Patou and Saint Pierre, it will see 18 months in two- to eight-year-old barrels prior to bottling. Its inky purple color is accompanied by notes of jammy blackberries, spice, spring flowers and black raspberries. Its soft, upfront, charming and medium-bodied profile should be ideal for drinking on release and over the following 5-7 years. Dec 2015, www.robertparker.com
