The 2015 Macon Milly Lamartine Clos du Four has a very keen and precise bouquet, hints of yellow flower complementing the citrus fruit, direct and focused, perhaps more conservative than the domaine's other 2015s. The palate is crisp and fresh, more expressive than the regular Macon Milly Lamartine at the moment, with touches of orange zest and spice (ginger) on the finish. Dominique Lafon did not produce a better Mâconnais wine in this vintage—this is just a fabulous wine that is going to be difficult to resist in its youth.

Bottled September 2016. 10-12,000 bottles. ‘A bit like Perrières is in Meursault: great wine but less easy. Needs an occasion.’ Serious stuff. Real nerve and excitement. (JR)
(13.3% alcohol; from 35-year-old vines on the midslope, featuring a higher percentage of clay than Lafon's other limestone-based vineyards; done entirely in demi-muids ; five grams per liter of acidity, with a pH of 3.01): Bright, light yellow. Tangy yellow stone fruit aromas convey an impression of lively acidity. Large-scaled, rich and thick, in a distinctly virile style, with penetrating acidity giving shape and verve to the flavors of apricot and smoke. "Always our strongest wine in acidity," noted Caroline Gon, adding that this wine always has the same aromas and technical analysis and thus transcends its vintage in 2015. Has the body to support its wood element finishes thick, bright and palate-staining. (But the 2014 release is sappier and more saline, offering an exhilarating balance of acidity and minerality; on my retaste of this wine in September, I rated it 91+.)
