The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin La Brunelle, which hails from a small vineyard behind the domaine which typically produces around three barrels of wine, offers up a lovely nose of raspberry, cherry, wood smoke and rose petal, framed by creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is elegant, expansive and fine-grained, with a juicy core of fruit and a stony, mineral finish. This is the most delicate and elegant of Roty's lieux-dits bottlings.

Full, dark red. Very dark aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and licorice. Juicy and tightly wound, conveying serious energy for the vintage and a lightly fermentative quality to the very primary flavors of crushed dark berries and herbs. Strong material here but youthfully imploded and showing little in the way of early sweetness. Finishes a bit medicinal and wound-up, with building tannins but no hard edges. Roty noted that this wine was suppler and more open a few days before my visit but today it's in a shell.

Bright medium ruby. Ripe, pure aromas of musky blackberry, cassis and licorice. Concentrated, firmly structured and backward but already displays a fine-grained, almost creamy texture and inviting sweetness to its blackberry, blueberry and licorice flavors. Finishes with suave tannins and excellent length. Superb potential here.

(Roty is one of two owners but is the only domaine that bottles an example). This is really quite aromatically elegant with its pure, cool and fresh nose that blends notes of various wild red berries, spice, wood and discreet earth hints. There is once again excellent volume to the delicious, palate coating and seductive flavors that are not quite as complex but the underlying material is such that in time I believe that more depth will develop.
