The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has huge, oppressive reduction on the nose, masking vegetal/mulch-like aromas. The palate is harsh and uncompromising; there is stem addition here but it feels as if the stems were not fully lignified, leaving the torrefactory finish feeling raw. It does improve with aeration but never melds together. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Much more savoury and controlled than their Échezeaux, with a lovely clove and anise spice on the palate. Very long, very aromatic aftertaste with some vegetal stemmy hints as well as the spice and just-ripe black cherry. (RH)
(from a .38 ha parcel in Grand Maupertui). Here too there is a touch of wood setting off the more deeply pitched and wonderfully complex aromas that display restrained notes of cherry, black raspberry, violets and earth. There is a beguiling natural sweetness to the rich and sappy flavors that possess excellent depth before culminating in a robust, powerful and notably firm finale.
