The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru feels quite reduced on the nose, with a touch of brettanomyces, and it is difficult to discern the terroir . The grippy, taut, medium-bodied palate offers slightly chewy tannin but lacks depth and flesh on the slightly sour cherry finish. I hope this is entering an awkward stage and will improve down the line. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Mid to deep crimson. Pretty oaky on the nose at the moment and a little meaty. Really very meaty on the palate (brett?). Savoury and persistent but not sure about that meaty character – I hope it is the condition of the sample and not the nature of the wine. (JH)

Delicious perfume on the nose, but the palate has a pretty wild volatility about it, giving a strong glue scent on the finish. Not for me. (RH)
