Medium red. Aromas of redcurrant and spices. Pliant, savory, rather airy wine in the context of the vintage, with red berry flavors accented by spices and pepper. A gently extracted, fruit-driven 2015 but there's also an element of fat here from the full alcohol of the vintage. Finishes with suave tannins and lovely length. This wine should offer early pleasure and Leroux wonders if it will ever close down in the bottle.

The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans has fine transparency on the nose with airy red berry fruit, sous-bois and a touch of white chocolate. The palate is very well balanced with succulent tannin, quite sweet with bay leaf and vervain tea towards the finish. Very refined and poised, I would just like a tad more intensity once this is in bottle.

Very light cherry red. Not that expressive on the nose but with an alluring spread of very sweet fruit on the front palate. Fine tannins. Neat wine with a real future. (JR)

(all of the wines to this point have been racked; the crop level here was a "normal" 35 hectoliters per hectare, according to Leroux): Palish medium red. Dark cherry on the nose, plus a lightly medicinal hint of menthol. Rich, savory wine with lovely soil complexity to its flavors of plum, redcurrant and spices; an element of smoky minerality emerges with aeration. This silky yet very well-delineated wine has the strength of material to support its firm, ripe tannins. Finishes with a saline nuance and a note of chocolate. I suspect this wine will offer early pleasure but also age gracefully.
