Tasting Notes
(from a 1.60 ha parcel on the Morey side where the soil is more white than red). A discreet application of wood easily allows the liqueur-like dark currant aromas that are liberally cut with earth and spice nuances to be appreciated. Otherwise there is superb richness to the full-bodied, powerful and concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that possess a velvety and mouth coating palate feel, all wrapped in a gorgeously complex and persistent finish. This isn’t quite as classy as the Bèze but this it’s not far behind and it’s entirely possible that one day it will match its stablemate in overall quality. Note well though that this isn’t going to be an early drinker so plenty of patience will be necessary. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com

The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is more expressive on the nose compared to the Clos-de-Beze, as you would expect, with detailed blueberry and blackberry aromas, a light peaty scent all with fine delineation. The palate is very well balanced with crisp black fruit, blood orange and savory/meaty notes underneath. There is good energy on display here and it will need 4-5 years to fully assimilate the new oak on the finish. Very fine. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com
