Dark red with ruby tones. Deeper but initially more subdued on the nose than the Vieilles Vignes but the wine's chocolatey ripeness takes on compelling floral lift and lively thyme and sage notes with time in the glass. A wonderfully silky, creamy Clos Vougeot with outstanding inner-mouth lift to its dark fruit and mineral flavors complicated by wild herbs and spices. This hugely dense wine finishes with massive but noble late-arriving tannins and explosive building length. Very few grand cru Burgundies manage such a combination of velvety texture and energy.

(made from grapes on the first shoot of each old vine, as previously): Dark red with ruby tones. Superrripe black fruit and violet aromas convey an impression of sweetness that's perfectly countered by pungent minerality. Plush, rich and filled in, with its intense black cherry, cassis, licorice and violet flavors complemented by smoky minerality. A wonderfully thick and deep grand cru with great potential. Finishes with huge, palate-saturating but utterly suave tannins and outstanding palate-staining length. Labet notes that these wines still need to spend a second quiet winter in barrels, and he does not expect to bottle until May or June of next year.

Moderate wood sets off the overtly floral-inflected aromas of herbal tea, earth and liqueur-like black raspberry that are laced with plenty of spice hints. There is superb density to the opulent and lavishly rich broad-shouldered flavors that are focused and extraordinarily powerful and intense, all wrapped in a balanced and immensely persistent finish. What is so impressive about this wine is how it carries its power and weight so effortlessly and this should age for gracefully for decades though it should actually be approachable after only 10 to 12 years.
