The 2015 Chambertin Grand Cru, which includes 100% whole bunch fruit in the single barrel, has a very composed bouquet with fine delineation, blackberry and raspberry mixed with cold limestone scents and hints of crushed flowers. The palate is structured on the entry with undergrowth notes emanating from the stems, but they are simpatico with the dark berry fruit and there is a very persistent, long, spicy note towards the finish. Excellent, although I might just prefer the Mazi-Chambertin this year.

(there's just a single new barrel of this wine, which represents a blend of 30-year-old and much older vines; vinified entirely with whole clusters): Ruby-red. Dark berries, violet and smoky minerality on the nose, with little new oak influence in evidence. Fat, sweet and densely packed, offering plush, hugely rich flavors of black raspberry and chocolate flavors. But this backward wine does not currently offer quite the éclat of the Mazis-Chambertin. Finishes with big, ripe, dusty tannins that seem less refined than those of the Mazis. Charlopin recommends waiting until 2030 to uncork this big boy.

Wood toast and reduction again makes this tough to read. The gorgeously textured and intensely mineral-driven flavors possess outstanding richness and imposing size and weight that stain the palate with extract on the hugely long finish that really fans out as it sits in the mouth. This is most impressive but patience definitely required. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
