Moderately saturated medium red. Pure but subdued scents of red berries, crushed stone and dried flowers. Surprisingly supple and silky in the mouth but with sound, well-integrated acidity and crushed-stone minerality giving shape to the red fruit flavors and extending the wine's finish. An element of saline minerality currently suppresses the wine's underlying sweetness and the tannins are a bit dominant today but this sappy, mineral-driven wine just needs time in the bottle.

(from vines planted in 1955): Bright ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of wild strawberry and raspberry complemented by musky minerality and lifted by a floral topnote. Silky on entry, then rich and sharply chiseled in the middle, with intense purple fruit and mineral flavors perked up by a violet quality. Classy, subtle and very long, with tannins fading smoothly into the wine's fruit.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Combottes has a very precise bouquet, lifted red cherries and wild strawberry all struck through with wonderful mineral notes. The palate is beautifully balanced with svelte tannin, a fine line of acidity and a sorbet-like freshness with an effervescent, captivating finish. This is the kind of wine that makes you go oh là là.
