Score 89/100 · Drink 2017-2022, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Nov 2017
This cuvée represents those portions of early “pre-harvest” from his Grosses Gewächs sites that Keller deemed too high in acidity to suit his dry Von der Fels. “In 2014,” noted Keller, “we didn’t bottle [this] at all. In 2015, we produced 21,000 bottles.” Passion fruit and bruised apple make for a pungent aromatic opening. A bright, firm palate exhibits palpable density as well as brightly juicy lime and apple. The chalk-tinged finish is a bit sweet-sour but invigoratingly sustained. This should prove well worth following for a few years.
