One of my favorite Haut-Medocs for value and consistent quality is d’Aurilhac, which produces a wine made from 49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The slightly herbaceous 2011 is an attractively fruity, dark ruby/plum-colored effort revealing sweet currants on the attack, an underlying tapenade character, easygoing tannins and a medium-bodied finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Dark crimson. Healthy and full of life. Very bumptious and vibrant on the nose. Mmm – exceptionally ripe and seductive! Only on the very end of the palate does the acidity start to insist. Exceptionally luscious texture. Very well done! (JR)
