Score 89/100 · Drink 2020-2030, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Dec 2018

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages from Claude Dugat is still quite youthful, but it's a structurally supple rendition of this cuvée, which will be more precocious than many of its siblings. The wine unfurls in the glass with aromas of grilled meat, sweet red berries, woodsmoke and a framing of cedary new oak. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, ample and expansive, taking on more mid-palate depth and dimension with air, and framed by already melting tannins and tangy acids. While I suspect an additional three or four days on the vine would have brought more flesh and generosity, with bottle age this will evolve into a bright and satiny example of Dugat's Gevrey AOC.

Bright garnet. Rather mousy nose. Lots of acidity and then sharp tannin. Doesn’t do it for me. Pinched and rather fruitless. A bottle problem? (JR)

(bottled in March): Bright dark red. Aromas of blackberry, raspberry, flowers, earth and spicy oak. Juicy, sappy village wine with dark fruit flavors complemented by salty minerality. Tickles the salivary glands on the finish but this wine needs a couple years to integrate its firm tannins. I found this a bit rustic from barrel but today it's a classic Gevrey villages .

(aging in 50% new oak): Black cherry and a strong element of spicy, resiny oak on the nose. Juicy, spicy and saline, showing good cut but a slight animal rusticity and a repeating note of torrefaction. I expected a bit more fruit.
