A slightly cheesy post-fermentative “Mosel stink” largely blows off to reveal fresh apple, white currant and lime of bracing, penetrating intensity, allied with alluring nut extracts. Stony and alkaline nuances make for a finish of delectable counterpoint as well as consummately refreshing persistence, while mineral salts serve for mouthwatering savor. Once the nose becomes as crystal clear as the finish, this will be a little masterpiece, and it’s definitely worth cellaring.

Schaefer's 2015 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett is, by nature, a bit more reductive than the Himmelreich Kabinett; it shows a clear, fresh and flinty bouquet, still with some sulfur notes. The wine is very piquant, pure and grippy on the palate, well structured and provided with a racy acidity. This is a challenging Riesling with a very good grip and a bit astringent minerality. Keep it for a year or five and enjoy over another decade. It has 7.5% alcohol and 51 grams of residual sugar.
AP number 03 16. Beautiful spread of flattering ripeness and flavour. Pure white peach that is slightly underripe. Glorious wine. Very crystalline. Delicate and lightweight on the palate despite all the flavour. (JR)
