The 2015 Haut-Bergey Blanc has a strange, almost cider-scented bouquet, quite yeasty but missing some delineation. The palate is bitter on the entry, displaying tangy marmalade and orange zest notes and good depth, but it seems quite forward toward the finish, which lacks a little length. A second bottle was even worse than the first and felt like a subpar natural wine that is determined to be cider. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

I tasted two wines from Château Haut Bergery and unquestionably the white is where it’s at. The 2015 Château Haut-Bergey Blanc gives up bright notes of green apple, citrus, and mint, as well as more minerality and floral notes with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, crisp, beautifully fresh, and lively on the palate, with solid texture depth, I’d happily drink bottles over the coming 4-5 years, but it will keep longer.

The 2015 Haut Bergey Blanc has a straightforward bouquet with scents of pineapple and green apples, but just a little too basic compared to its peers. The palate is balanced with a pleasant twist of sour lemon on the entry, moderate weight in the mouth, but it is missing complexity towards the finish. To be honest, I have tasted better vintages of this in the past.

A dense and tight white with creme brulée and cooked apple character. Full body, plenty of fruit and bright acidity. Mar 2016, JamesSuckling.com
