Tasting notes
Healthy dark red. Ripe but reticent aromas of black raspberry, brown spices and licorice. Concentrated, fresh and fine-grained, conveying excellent energy to its fresh flavors of kirsch , violet and licorice. Has plenty of density to support its ripe tannins. Finishes with excellent length. This wine was aged in 90% new oak but I never would have guessed.

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru les Fontenys was very promising out of barrel and now in bottle, it is delivering the goods. It has a fragrant bouquet that soars from the glass, very floral with rose petals and iris infusing the redcurrant and strawberry scents. It just seems so refined and that translates across to the palate. The tannins here are very fine, the acidity extremely well judged, and a little plushness that ensures it is approachable but with the salinity on the finish that urges you to take another sip. This is an extremely well crafted Fontenys from Roty - chapeau!
Bright ruby-red. Crushed blackberry, black cherry, strawberry confiture, licorice and violet on the nose. Then juicy but tight and imploded on the palate. This distinctly introverted premier cru finishes with a serious tannic spine that calls for patience.
