(from 65-year-old vines): Less evolved and expressive on the nose than the Folatières, offering refined, airy scents of yellow fruits and ginger. Intensely flavored and youthfully tight, with a penetrating mineral character that reminded me of Chevalier-Montrachet. This wonderfully suave wine nicely combines gras and finesse, finishing with terrific persistence and a late note of hawthorn.

The 2014 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Caillerets, from vines planted in 1947, has a very different nose to the Folatières with apple blossom, white peach and apricot scents. The palate is underpinned by a keen salinity, very structured with more mineral/limestone towards the finish. This is another superb white from Thierry, perhaps even more bewitching than the Folatières.
