Dark ruby-red. Brooding aromas of blackberry, licorice and violet, plus a whiff of creosote. A powerful wine with rather inky black fruit and mint flavors sweetened by its floral violet element. Finishes hugely tannic and very long but a bit youthfully musclebound. One of the two barrels of this juice are new. This is tough going today but has the power and guts for long aging.

The 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru goes into a new barrel and then racked into a one-year old barrel. It had a strange bouquet, not reduced, just a little lactic perhaps, then later a touch of Airfix glue. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sharp acidity and grainy tannin, but missing some flesh towards the slightly blocky finish. Hopefully it will gain more substance during the remainder of its maturation.
