Deep red. Pungent cherry, licorice and wild herbs on the nose, lifted by exhilarating treble notes of blood orange and peony. Sharply delineated and tightly wound, dominated by its structure today. A more savory style than either the Clos Saint-Denis or Clos de la Roche, with dark berry, mineral and wild herb flavors carrying impressively on the extremely long, saline aftertaste.

The 2013 Bonnes-Mares is remarkably suave and polished for this site, yet there is plenty of tightly-coiled power lying in reserve. Cool and intensely mineral, the 2013 boasts remarkable precision throughout. Expressive chalky and floral notes add lift as the 2013 opens up in the glass. This is going to be a fascinating Burgundy to follow over the next several decades.

Bright, dark red. Outstanding precision and lift to the aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, garrigue and crushed rock. Densely packed, sappy and brisk but tightly wound, showing razor-sharp definition to its flavors of blackberry, minerals and white pepper. Finishes savory and classically dry, with a formidable spine of acids and tannins calling for extended aging. A very powerful 2013.
