Score 88/100 · Drink 2017-2022, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2017

The 2014 Le Sartre is a powerful, sinewy wine with serious density of fruit and equally imposing tannins. Although not especially refined, it delivers quite a bit of intensity in a hearty, rustic style that is best enjoyed on the young side. The blend is 60 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 40 % Merlot.

The 2014 Le Sartre comes across as quite rustic, with big, chewy tannins and considerable overall intensity. A blast of dark fruit, smoke, licorice, tobacco and new leather hit the palate in this intense, powerful wine. There is no shortage of personality here. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.

The Château Le Sartre 2014 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. It has a slightly conservative nose, nicely focused with tertiary black fruit and smoky tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, satisfactory red and black fruit with a touch of graphite on the anachronistic but refined finish. You could describe this Graves as a bit old-fashioned, but it comes across as an honest and satisfying wine in the making.

Alain Raynaud consulting. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot. Zippy, minerally nose and just a little shortage of juice on the palate. A bit dry and demanding but the fruit is in good condition. More mineral than fruity. (JR)
