96% Sangiovese, 4% Merlot, refined in French oak 2nd fill barriques for 12 months. Black cherry fruit but a slight staleness on the palate spoils the purity – very slight TCA? Otherwise, pleasant bitterness on the finish and good refreshment. (RH)

Castello di Ama’s entry level. Just mid crimson. Sweetly perfumed, leafy cherry nose with hints of oak and fruit cake. The palate is less forthcoming and still tightly closed. Firmly tannic. (WS)
The 2013 Chianti Classico Ama is plump, juicy and expressive. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and tobacco flesh out in a pretty, nuanced wine that captures the essence of this reference-point estate in Gaiole. The warm vintage has resulted in an especially powerful entry-level wine. First introduced with the 2010 vintage, the Chianti Classico Ama is made from the estate's youngest vines. About the producer
Castello di Ama is one of the pre-eminent estates in Chianti Classico. Situated in the southern-most district of the appellation, the estate has only been making wine since the late 1970s but has since built a reputation as one of the region’s best.
