The 2012 Bourgogne Blanc "Clos du Chateau" comes from 4.5 hectares of vines from the enclosed clos, planted with vines in 1980 and 1990. It has a refined bouquet with light orange zest and cheeky mint aromas. The palate has a spicy note on the entry and the acidity is well-judged as it moves towards its lemongrass-tinged finish that demonstrates fine weight. This is a capable Bourgogne Blanc. Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet is actually based on the outskirts of Meursault and the wines made by the de Montille family. The biodynamic tenets applied at their own domaine wines are in situ here, with a prudent use of new oak. The range is smaller than in the past since they have relinquished some parcels, including the virtually non-existent postage stamp of Montrachet that I only ever tasted once. They do not quite have the panache of the Domaine de Montille wines but they are still well worth looking out for. Importer: Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. (516) 327-0808

A pretty and ripe mix of white fleshed fruit and citrus aromas leads to vibrant and attractively complex flavors that culminate in a clean, dry and delicious finish. This delicious effort will be approachable young yet should reward a few years of cellar time too if desired. Jun 2014, www.burghound.com, Drink: 2016+
