Quite heavy and rich. Very much a Bâtard in terms of weight but with good precision. Not the most persistent Bâtard but certainly above average with some lemon-oil notes on the end. (JR)

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2011 from Bachelet-Monnot has a very precise and mineral-driven nose: focused and poised with good intensity that unfurls nicely with time in the glass. The palate is nicely poised with supremely well-integrated oak, in that it is tangible but does not obstruct the mineral core of fruit and the wonderful tension on the finish. Excellent.
Pale yellow-green. Complex but reticent nose hints at yellow fruits, clove oil, lees and smoky oak. Then plush and velvety in the mouth, with terrific chewiness and energy but no hard edges or undue weight. Tactile, brisk grand cru with a very long, subtle, highly perfumed finish. This will need several years to gain in complexity in bottle.
Broad on the nose but tenser on the palate than many a Bâtard. Very youthful and definitely tight which few Bâtards tend to be. (JR)
