Cool and a touch closed on the nose though there is clear quality here. Lots and lots going on in the mouth. Blackcurrant fruit with a hint of mocha. Perfectly ripe though no "gout de solaire", more a "gout de Pauillac". Weight, fruit, density, class, balance, Depth. This is very, very good.

82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot. 33 hl/ha. Deep colour. Just beginning to open with the aid of aeration. Dark fruit with a slight vanilla edge. Medium-bodied, clean and fresh. Not quite the fruit weight of top years but firm, ripe tannins and attractive fruit. Won’t disappoint but more for medium-term ageing. (JL)
Aromas of cassis, roasted white sesame and sweet spices with touches of ash and graphite A little tannic on the palate, with a medium to full body and a long, tight finish that’s still a tad granular. 82% cabernet sauvignon and 18% merlot. This needs more time in the bottle. Drink from 2028. From a vertical tasting at the winery.
The 2014 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of my favorite wines from the Left Bank in this vintage. Bright and vivacious blackberry, cedar and graphite scents soar from the glass with real purpose. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite tensile with ample depth. It has matured since I last tasted it four years ago. It is very fresh and has a saline finish. Recommended. Tasted at the Bordeaux Index 10-Year-On tasting. N.B. Two bottles tasted blind at Southwold showed oxidation on the first.

In 1978 the Borie family took over Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Xavier Borie has been making exceptional wines here ever since. With 58 hectares of vines around the château, this is a wine with real Pauillac style.
