The 2014 La Tour Carnet has an earthy, tobacco-tinged bouquet, moderate levels of dusty black fruit that never quite attain the focus they aspire to. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannin, a fine level of acidity, more angular than its peers. “Spiky” you might say, with a pinch of black pepper towards the short but focused finish. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Winemaker from Ch Fombrauge brought in. Some interesting tertiary notes on the nose and nice structure and balance. Slightly inky but certainly refreshing! Lightweight. (JR)
The 2014 La Tour Carnet was a wine that I tasted last year from bottle, so why not give it another whirl to remind readers of its quality. There is a lot going on aromatically with plenty of boisterous black cherry and raspberry fruit, maintaining that floral element that I discerned last year. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, perhaps the oak on this bottle a little more conspicuous than before, but that will be subsumed with two or three years in bottle.
