The 2013 Coleraine has a seductive bouquet with blackcurrant, raspberry coulis and blood orange scents, beautifully defined with a little more panache and charm than the 2009. The palate has a satin-like texture on the entry, moderate depth, sleek and sensual with a plush but restrained finish that demonstrates real sophistication. Classy from start to finish, this is a beautiful Coleraine that will give many years' drinking pleasure. Tasted from a bottle shipped directly from the estate at the Coleraine vertical in London.

The 2013 Coleraine comprises 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc. Aromatically, the wine offers saturated purple berries with cassis, licorice/aniseed, raspberry seeds and dark chocolate. On the palate, it exhibits all the chalkiness that defines its success, making it feel both pliable and ductile in its texture, akin to the texture of raw cocoa (fine, powdery, chalky a little grippy/gravelly). It's excellent. Lovely fresh acidity through the finish lifts it into the register of graphite/lead pencil. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.

Full bottle 1,324 g. 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. Healthy garnet. Leafy Cabernet nose but some real breadth and substance across the palate. Neat and contained but by no means wan or timid. A sweet, very ample and long finish. Already a pleasure – by no means heavy – but it should continue to develop nicely. Really quite subtle. It very much builds towards the end. Fresher than the average red bordeaux nowadays. Really very well made. (JR)

56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, mostly new. Beetroot, black cherry, lots of density on the finish with lovely green flashes. Quite a lot of tannin upfront, still – is this perhaps in an awkward phase? The structure dominates. (RH)
