The 2013 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain l’Exception has a gorgeous, very pure bouquet that soars from the glass: red cherries, bergamot and just a hint of wilted rose petals. There is real exuberance from the glass. The palate is full of ripe Morello cherry and fresh strawberry notes, extremely well-judged acidity and a poised, vivacious finish that is difficult to resist drinking directly from barrel!

85-year-old vines on the border of Meursault. Very gravelly and very suitable for complantés (interplanted) Gamay and Pinot. His grandfather started with Clos des Chênes and this vineyard which was then young. One ha and still very healthy. This is an homage to Frédéric’s grandfather. No regular bottling was made in 2013. Quite raw, gamey notes. Not the prettiest example. Just a little light and scrawny in 2013. Doubtless it will usefully gain a bit of flesh. (JR)
