Medium red. Highly aromatic nose combines raspberry and essential floral and spice oils. Densely packed and energetic, with its sweetness leavened by firm acidity. Salty minerality lifts and extends the red fruit and spice flavors through a fresh, savory finish. Not a particularly large-scaled wine but nicely concentrated. The tannins are firm but not at all hard.

(a blend of several small premier cru parcels, with the yield cut by coulure ): Bright red, darker than the village offering. Aromas of dark fruits, licorice and crushed stone are expressive yet still tight. Dark raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors and aromas are complicated by subtle earth tones and lifted by a violet topnote. Supple on entry, then bright in the middle palate; more reticent but richer than the village offering. Finishes with a firm spine of ripe tannins. This wine is a blend of estate fruit and purchased grapes.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, which was picked on October 7-8, completely destemmed and spent 13 months in oak, has a pastille-like purity on the entry with red cherries, wild strawberry and undergrowth scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine line of acidity and a harmonious, quite elegant finish that slips down the throat with ease. This should give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure.
