Score 92/100 · Drink 2017-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2016

The Paolo Scavino 2011 Barolo Carobric is a silky wine that exhibits fine texture and a long, polished finish. The bouquet is elegant and unique in that it offers a tangible mineral note of crushed granite, which frames the generous fleshiness and density of the dark fruit. This Barolo offers an impressive level of aromatic intensity and vertical lift. It exhibits both grace and power.

Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Rather obviously oaked but not out of kilter with the ripe fruit. Supple, juicy palate that is already approachable. Hints of dried fruit and oak. Modern and seductive but with some firm tannins on the finish. (WS)

Dark red cherry, plum, spice, tobacco and underbrush are some of the many notes that flesh out in Scavino's 2011 Barolo Carobric. Here, too, the style is soft and silky, very much in keeping with the personality of the year. The Carobric often shows a little more angularity when young, but the 2011 is already quite open. Carobric is a blend of fruit from Cannubi, Rocche dell'Annunziata and Bric del Fiasc.

Freshly cut flowers, pine, mint and bright red stone fruits literally jump from the glass in Scavino's 2011 Barolo Carobric. Bright, delineated and energetic, the 2011 impresses for its crystalline purity and nuance. This gorgeous Barolo is shaping up to be a jewel, but the tannins will need bottle age to soften. There is plenty to look forward to.
