The 2013 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has an attractive mulberry and candied orange peel, touches of wild heather lending a bit of wildness. The oak is nicely integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins: masculine with very fine tension on the black pepper-tinged finish that just needs to muster more flesh and corpulence. That may develop in bottle, of course.
Dark sultry crimson. From an almost empty bottle so a little oxidation but no shortage of substance and charm. Wonderful roundness. Really zesty and rich with an attractive slightly bitter finish. Masses of energy. Just medium weight but great balance and ripe tannins on the end. Super fresh. (JR)

About the producer
Nicolas Potel is one of Burgundy’s most talented and connected winemakers. He created Maison Roche de Bellene, the négoce arm of Domaine de Bellene, in 2008, using his extensive network in the region to source top-quality fruit for an "haute couture" négociant operation.
