2013 Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres

Very pale yellow. Discreet lemony nose, with a suggestion of charry oak. Quite closed and unyielding on the palate, with lemon and stone flavors dominating. Where's the pliancy and ripeness of fruit here? Finishes a bit stony and hard-edged. It's hard to imagine this very dry wine blossoming in bottle.

(just finished its malo but not yet sulfured): Good bright yellow. Lovely floral perfume to the aromas of peach, nectarine and acacia. Then surprisingly taut in the mouth, showing superb cut and lift to the flavors of nectarine, flowers and minerals. This premier cru has a full five grams per liter of acidity, according to Germain, who added that production here was 38 hectoliters per hectare. Very long and vibrant on the aftertaste.

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Folatieres has a slightly muddled bouquet that lacks precision, more resinous than its peers with baked apple notes coming through with aeration suggesting an early picking. The palate is well balanced but not the most complex, with bitter lemon and orange rind, a pinch of spice, yet it is missing a little clarity on the finish. Tasted May 2016.
