Slightly fuller yellow than the 2014. Very ripe yellow peach, orange blossom, ginger and pineapple dominate the nose, which comes across as a bit less salty and dry than the '14. Then wonderfully silky in the mouth and thicker than the '14; also quite dry, with its fatness and touch of sweetness perfectly leavened by--and also nicely buffering--a thread of lemony acidity. This is lower in acidity than the '14 but it also has a lower pH. Can't quite match the '14 in inner-mouth perfume, complexity or lift but aeration brought outstanding depth and flavor complexity, and the dry, rich, classic finish boasts palate-staining citrussy length. Give this at least another couple years in the cellar to harmonize and gain in complexity. (just 18 hectoliters per hectare produced; 4.3 g/l acidity; 3.16 pH)

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières has a very delineated bouquet with limestone and granite notes, very reserved but very harmonious. It is clearly beautifully poised, very feminine and succinct with a very precise, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. There are no fireworks here, rather an accomplished cerebral Meursault with considerable ageing potential.

(production here was just 15 hectoliters per hectare, according to Lafon): Bright yellow. Aromas of orange oil, crushed stone and oak char. Superconcentrated and vibrant in the mouth, with chewy, mineral-edged flavors of tangerine, ginger and powdered stone. I find this a bit more exotic than the Charmes, with the oak element more apparent today, but it needs time in bottle to harmonize its powerful elements.

Very rich and intense. Complex and round at first with a real streak of green slightly oily acidity. A big monster, this wine! Clearly top drawer. (JR)
