Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Referts takes a little coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing lime flower, yellow plum, gooseberry and wet limestone aromas that are nicely defined, quite punchy in style. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, lemon and orange rind, a light marine influence with good weight towards the rambunctious finish. While not quite matching the bottle tasted at the domaine last year, this remains a solid Les Referts. Tasted May 2016.

Pale yellow. Reserved aromas and flavors of peach, brioche and subtle spices. Dense and sweet on the palate, showing firm acidity and good precision but not quite the complexity yet of the Perrières. The youthfully fresh finish features an exotic suggestion of orange oil. Perhaps not quite as pristine as the Perrières but very long on the aftertaste.
