Tasting notes
Moderately saturated medium red. Musky plum, redcurrant, leather and mocha on the slightly wild nose. Sweet plum and leather flavors could use a bit more primary character and verve but offer immediate approachability. Finishes with serious dusty tannins that turned a bit dry with aeration.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino bursts from the glass with sweet dark cherries, scorched earth, tar, smoke and licorice. This is a big, extroverted Brunello, but it also shows fabulous overall balance. Intense and energetic, it captures the essence of the vintage in spades. Some slightly rough edges remain, but this is nevertheless a terrific effort from San Filippo.

Giannelli seems to do best with shorter wood aging regimes. When the Brunelli spend too much time in oak they lose a lot of the personality that makes his best wines distinctive.
