Tasting notes
First made in 2009 (as was the lieu dit Paradis), the 2013 St Joseph Lieu Dit St Joseph is a bigger, richer wine that’s loaded with notions of black raspberry, scorched earth, roasted herbs and licorice. Full-bodied, layered and nicely structured -- you have to hunt a little for the tannin, but they’re there -- it’s already hard to resist and will have 10-15 years of overall longevity.

Inky purple. Powerful dark berry compote, licorice and floral aromas are lifted by notes of white pepper, Indian spices and smoky minerals. Sweet, deeply pitched black raspberry and violet pastille flavors stain the palate, displaying a suave blend of richness and vivacity. Notes of white pepper and star anise come up with air and carry through a long, sappy, precise finish that shows just a hint of velvety tannins.
