The 2006 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a rather static bouquet that just lacks a bit of vigor and complexity. Quite airy in style, it gains more depth and vigor with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a sappy opening; it's chewy and stumbles toward the finish that feels a bit disjointed and bitter. Tasted at the Clos Vougeot tasting at Château de la Tour.

Bright crimson. Sweet and heady. A bit modern and caricature. Very dry and leathery on the finish. Oxidised. (JR)
Good medium red. Medicinal, high-pitched nose offers currant, cherry, flowers and spices, with complicating notes of caraway seed and menthol. Then dense, sappy and bright, with lovely mineral lift to the red fruit and spice flavors. Taut, focused and very young Clos Vougeot, finishing with a firm tannic spine. This may ultimately merit an even higher score.

Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy’s most important wine producers. The family-owned estate, now in the hands of the seventh generation, is one of the largest in the region, with significant holdings in both the Côte d’Or and the Côte Chalonnaise.
