Tasting notes
‘The Riserva must be a real step up from the straight vintage Brunello: it must express the vintage better and must have a little more freshness and concentration’, Lorenzo Magnelli told me. Deep ruby with orange tinges. Deeper and more minerally and much less direct than the straight 2007. Impressively polished tannins and fine sappy acidity on the finish. Very complete yet generous at the same time. (WS)

A virile, imposing wine, the 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva offers up sweet black cherries, spices, cloves, melted road tar, menthol and dried flowers, all in the rich textured style of the year. The 2007 possesses gorgeous freshness and impeccable overall balance from start to finish. It can be enjoyed today or cellared for at least a handful of years. A textured, authoritative finish rounds things out nicely. This is very well done. The 2007 spent 48 months in cask, all of which it handled with grace.

Deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Pronounced sweet, jammy fruit nose. Quite jammy and extracted. Waves of big but ripe tannins. (WS)
