The 2000 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is so expressive. Soft contours and racy, layered fruit wrap across the palate. The 2000 vintage is known for its rich, seductive Barolos. Cavallotto’s Vigna San Giuseppe shows plenty of that enveloping, layered style. Time in the glass is so beneficial, as the 2000 opens and gains quite a bit of brightness with air. This is a terrific showing, the best yet for a wine that needed time to blossom.

The 2000 Barolo Bricco Boschis Riserva San Giuseppe is big and rich on the palate, but lacks freshness. Despite is attractive, textured personality; the wine appears out of balance, as he aromatics are maturing at a faster pace than the tannins are softening. Sweet menthol, licorice and worn-in leather linger on the finish.

I am typically a big fan of the Riservas – the entire lineup, actually – but the 2000s can’t match the best wines that have emerged from these cellars in recent vintages.

The 2000 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is not especially easy to assess at this adolescent stage. Today it is a dark, strapping Barolo loaded with sweet dark fruit, leather and mineral flavors. The wine's track record leads me to believe the 2000 will almost certainly develop into another splendid Vigna San Giuseppe.
