(from Clos Blanc; one-third new oak): Bright red, less saturated than the Volnay premier crus. Smoky red berries complicated by leather and game on the nose; a bit rustic after the Volnays. Then sweet, vinous and smooth in the mouth, displaying attractive flavors of redcurrant and mocha. Finishes with big, dusty, nicely integrated tannins and no shortage of energy. Should make a lovely village wine.

The 2012 Pommard is another overachiever in this range. Silky tannins support a core of red-toned fruit, spices, and crushed flowers as this voluptuous, creamy Pommard struts its stuff. A seamless, utterly impeccable finish rounds things out in style. Henri Boillot adds that these parcels were all heavily affected by millerandage (shot berries).
About the producer
Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
