Serralunga d’Alba. Deep ruby with orange rim. Reserved and impenetrable on the nose – like hitting a brick wall. Fine spicy edge, but totally backward. Minerally extract, fine, lingering raspberry and cherry with a massive but fine tannic structure. And yet so elegant. Great stuff. (WS)

The 2008 Barolo Prapò is a serious wine endowed with layers of expressive dark red fruit, smoke, iron and tar. There is plenty of Serralunga muscle and intensity in the glass. This is the most virile of the 2008s I tasted from Germano, and the wine most likely to take the longest to come around. Mint, licorice, tar and smoke are some of the notes that add complexity on the finish. Although the Prapò is delicious, it isn't quite as complete as the Cerretta.

Good full. red. Ripe red cherry, underbrush, wild herbs, chocolate and game on the nose. Densely packed but light on its feet, displaying the vibrancy and inner-mouth energy of the better 2008s. Serious, youthful, well-delineated Barolo with nicely supported tannins and a long, vibrant finish.
