An intriguing wine, Borgogno's 1999 Barolo Riserva comes together nicely in the glass. This is a decidedly large-scaled, ample Barolo built on serious depth and structure, not to mention a decidedly old-school approach articulated by the Boschis brothers. Some elements of rusticity remain, but all things considered the 1999 has developed very nicely since it was released.

About the producer

Giacomo Borgogno & Figli
One of Piedmont’s oldest estates, Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, often known as just “Borgogno”, is archly traditional. Favouring long macerations and extended ageing in Slavonian cask, it is best known for its impressive Barolos, especially the prized late releases from its extensive library stock.
